Cyber Monday 2026 falls on Monday, November 30, three days after Black Friday. Same campaign, different aisle: electronics, software, subscriptions, everything that arrives by courier or by download. Buying online well is its own skill — which product, from which seller, at what total, arriving when.
Cyber Monday is rarely a separate sale. For most retailers it closes a campaign that opened before Black Friday, so the Monday price is often the Friday price. Category patterns get reported every year; they are anecdotal and they move.
Online, a product is a string of characters. A retailer-exclusive SKU suffix, a bundle missing a cable, a seller-defined refurbished grade or a licence key resold from another region all change what you are comparing.
The checkout is where the price changes: shipping thresholds, warranty upsells, a monthly figure that is really a loan, a delivery date that may miss December. Read the last step before you decide.

The calendar
The week, day by day.
Cyber Monday is fixed to Thanksgiving, not to a date: the Monday after the fourth Thursday in November. In 2026 Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, so Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is Monday, November 30. The name is widely credited to a 2005 press release from Shop.org, the digital division of the US National Retail Federation. That origin is reported rather than documented on NRF's own pages; NRF today simply calls the two days the ends of one five-day event.
So treat the week as one campaign with different marketing each day. The two dates worth writing down are not sale days: the last day your retailer will adjust a price you already paid, and its last dispatch date for delivery before Christmas.
Day
Date in 2026
Where it matters
Worth knowing
Black Friday
Friday, November 27
US origin; now Europe, the UK, Brazil, Australia
Opening day in stores and online. Many campaigns began earlier.
Small Business Saturday
Saturday, November 28
US, UK
Independent shops. Fewer electronics, more local stock.
Cyber Monday
Monday, November 30
US origin; online everywhere
The online-heavy close of the same campaign. Electronics and software get the deepest marketing.
Giving Tuesday
Tuesday, December 1
International
A donation day, not a sale day. Charity-impersonation scams follow the shopping calendar.
Green Monday
Monday, December 14
US
Usually December's second Monday, near the last date standard shipping is quoted to arrive in time.
Retailers rename the same stretch — Cyber Week, Cyber Weekend, Black Week in Germany and Poland. Neither of those two dates is set by the industry: the price-adjustment window sits in your retailer's price-guarantee terms, and the last dispatch date is published by each carrier and retailer during November.
The core skill
Which product is it, really?
In a shop you can pick the box up. Online you buy a string of characters and a photograph, and the discount is attached to the string. Nearly every online "cheaper elsewhere" claim that collapses on inspection collapses here: the two listings were not the same product.
So the first question is not how much off. It is what exactly, from whom, in what condition, with what in the box, arriving when.
Copy the full model number. Not the marketing name. Regional variants and mid-generation revisions read identically. Paste the whole string into a search and see whether reviews and other retailers return the same machine.
Watch the SKU suffix. Chains commission exclusive variants with a letter appended: different panel, less storage, shorter warranty. A model that exists at one retailer only is a variant until proven otherwise.
Read what is in the box. Cable, charger, mount, second controller, the term of a bundled licence. A listing can promise a bundle in the title and a bare unit in the specification table.
Decode the condition words. "Open-box", "renewed", "certified refurbished", "grade A", "ex-display": seller vocabulary, not a standard. The word is the start of a question, not an answer.
For digital goods, check edition, platform and region. Disc or download, standard or deluxe, what the key activates on, how many devices and years, where the licence is valid. A cheaper key is usually a different licence.
Find the renewal price before the first-year price. A software sale figure is normally an introductory rate. What decides the purchase is the charge twelve months later, and whether the promotion covers renewals at all.
Know them by sight
Ten online traps, and the counter-move for each.
These belong to buying online in this particular week. Most are ordinary commercial practice, and each has a counter-move that takes under a minute. The last one is crime, and it peaks now because this is the week almost everyone is genuinely waiting for a parcel.
The doorbuster with an unpublished quantity. A headline price on a small allocation. It clears in minutes, the banner stays up, and the variant still in stock is a dearer one. Counter-move: set a target price for the exact model first, and buy nothing rather than the substitute the page has ready.
The price that moves after you pay. Friday's purchase, Monday's drop. Most retailers refund the difference only inside a price-adjustment window of a few days, and only when you ask. Counter-move: read the price-guarantee page before ordering, then set a reminder to re-check inside it.
The annual plan that renews at full price. Security software, cloud storage and creative tools discount a first term and renew at the standard rate, on a card you have stopped thinking about. Regional pricing adds a layer: a cheaper country's store carries residency and payment conditions of its own. Counter-move: find the renewal price, check whether the promotion covers renewals, and diary the cancellation date on the day you buy.
The grey-market licence key. Some resold keys are legitimate regional or volume stock. Others are region-locked, or are reported to have been bought with stolen cards and deactivated afterwards, with a replacement key as the remedy rather than a refund. Counter-move: buy from the publisher or a reseller it lists, and keep the invoice.
Refurbished grades the seller defined itself. "Grade A", "renewed" and "certified" have no shared meaning between sellers. Counter-move: get four answers in writing — who did the work, warranty length, battery health, original accessories — and compare only against another refurbished price with the same four.
The warranty upsell at the checkout step. A protection plan as a small monthly figure, offered once you are committed, sometimes pre-ticked, often overlapping a right you have anyway. Counter-move: in the EU and the UK the seller already owes a remedy for faulty goods. Read what the plan adds, then decline what you did not come for.
The monthly figure that is a loan. Buy-now-pay-later restates a price as an instalment, and the instalment is the number the page repeats. It is credit: late fees, possible reporting to credit agencies, and a plan that can outlive a return. Counter-move: multiply the instalment by the number of payments before comparing it with anything.
The free-shipping threshold. Delivery is free above a round number your basket sits just below, and the store has suggestions ready. Counter-move: compare the shipping charge with the filler item's price. Paying for delivery beats buying something you did not want.
The delivery date you assumed. The product page shows an optimistic range. The real date appears at the last step and depends on the seller and your address. Carriers and retailers publish last dispatch dates separately, during November. Counter-move: read the date at the final step, and look up the cut-off before ordering a gift, not after.
The confirmation for an order you never placed. A delivery problem, a failed payment, a purchase you do not recognise — timed for the week everyone expects parcels, linking to a copy of a sign-in page you use once a year. Counter-move: never use the link; open the retailer's site and read your own order history. Keep a unique password and two-step verification wherever a card is stored. In the UK forward texts to 7726 and report emails to the NCSC; in the US, reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Most of these cost money without anyone breaking a law, which is why the defence is the same for all: know the exact product, the total and the date, and never decide on the page that is asking you to decide.
What the law already promises
Your rights when you buy online.
An online order carries rights a shop purchase does not, and this is the week they earn their keep. These are summaries; scope, exceptions and enforcement differ by country, and the full text is one click away in each card.
EU: price reductions
An announcement of a price reduction must state the prior price, and the prior price is the lowest the trader applied in a period of not less than 30 days before the reduction. That is Article 6a, inserted into the Price Indication Directive 98/6/EC by Directive (EU) 2019/2161 and applied by member states since 28 May 2022. Member states may add rules for short-lived offers and stepped reductions.
For a distance contract you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason, counted from delivery; the trader may charge the direct cost of return only if it told you beforehand. The total price including taxes and delivery must be shown before you are bound. The exceptions bite online: goods unsealed after delivery, goods made to your specification, and digital content you agreed to start receiving early.
The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give a 14-day cancellation period for distance contracts, extended where the trader did not tell you about the right, and restrict payments you did not actively agree to. The digital-content and unsealed-goods exceptions work much as in the EU.
The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 restates the ban on misleading and aggressive practices and lets the Competition and Markets Authority act without going to court first. Part 4 also carries a chapter on subscription contracts: pre-contract information, reminder notices, cooling-off. Those provisions commence separately, so check what is in force.
The FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing say a former-price comparison must be against a price at which the article was actually offered, openly and in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period, and not one set up to create a saving. A list-price comparison is proper only where that is the price the article generally sells at.
The FTC amended its Negative Option Rule in 2024 to require that cancelling be as easy as signing up. A federal appeals court vacated that amendment in 2025, on procedural grounds, before it took effect. The Commission's March 2026 notice calls it "the vacated 2024 Rule" and reopens the question. Deception stays actionable and state renewal laws still apply, but do not count on a federal click-to-cancel guarantee this season.
Two habits make this usable. Keep a dated screenshot of the offer page and the confirmation email. And note whether you ticked a box agreeing to immediate delivery of digital content: in the EU and the UK, that tick ends the cancellation right.
Follow the money
Who pays for the deal you were shown.
Cyber Monday runs on free tools sitting between you and the store, and nearly all of them are paid by the store. Deal aggregators earn commission on outbound clicks and also sell placement, so a "top deal" can be a paid position. Coupon extensions are paid on last-click attribution, which is why one can appear at your checkout with no working code: the click itself may claim the commission. Cashback sites take the same commission and hand part of it back, after a pending period, an exclusion list and a minimum. Practices of this kind were alleged against a large coupon extension in a widely viewed investigation in December 2024 and in lawsuits filed afterwards; the operator disputes the claims.
That does not make them useless. It means each answers the question that pays it. Five of your own settle the matter.
Who pays it? If the answer is the store, read its ranking as advertising until shown otherwise. Not an accusation; an incentive.
Does the payment decide what you see? Ask whether it will ever show an offer it earns nothing from, and whether it says why an offer was left out. A tool that cannot show its rejects cannot be checked.
Does it touch your links, cart or checkout? Rewritten links, injected codes and modified carts are how commissions get captured. A tool that leaves the retailer's page alone has nothing to capture.
What permissions does it declare? A Chrome Web Store listing states the permissions requested and the privacy practices declared. On a shopping extension, "web history" means the pages you browse.
Can you open the evidence? A verified price you can click through and read is information. A number you cannot check is an advertisement with a decimal point in it.
Muchita's answers, in order. Nobody pays it: free, no affiliate links, no placement for sale. Nothing is ranked for money, because there is no money. It never rewrites a retailer link, injects a code, or touches your cart or checkout. It runs only when you ask, needs no account, and optional analytics stay off until you switch them on and never include the products or stores you looked at. Every offer it reports links to the page it was verified on, rejects included. That is the entire business model.
Before you click buy
The seven-step online checklist.
The first three steps are worth doing the week before. The rest take about a minute each, and most of them happen on the checkout page, which is where online purchases usually go wrong.
Write down the SKU, not the name.
The full model number, the variant, and one line on what has to be in the box. That note stops a bigger percentage from choosing the product for you.
Record the pre-sale price with a date on it.
Screenshot the page before the campaign starts, and check a price-history tool where one covers that store. In the EU the prior price shown should be the 30-day low; your screenshot is how you can tell.
Read the price-guarantee and returns pages.
Days to claim a price adjustment, days to return, who pays return postage, and whether discounted or opened items are excluded. Once per store, before a cart is waiting.
Compare the identical SKU across stores.
Item price first, then shipping as its own line, then the delivery date. If a store is cheaper on a variant you did not choose, that is not a comparison.
Check the seller and the condition.
Sold by and shipped by, new or a named refurbished grade, warranty length, and the country it ships from. A cross-border order can arrive with duty payable.
For software, find the renewal price and set the cancel date.
What it costs after the introductory term, whether the discount covers renewals, and how cancellation works. Put the date in your calendar before you pay.
Read every line of the last step, then pay with protection.
Total with tax, shipping, the delivery estimate for your address, any pre-ticked plan, and whether instalments have quietly become the payment method. Then a card with chargeback rights rather than a bank transfer.
Where Muchita fits
What Muchita does on a Cyber Monday product page.
Muchita Shopping is a free Chrome extension for step four. On a product page you ask it, once, to find the same model and variant at other stores and verify each offer's item price against the offer page itself. It reports the verified item price with shipping shown separately, and links every offer it checked, including the ones it rejected and why — in this week, usually a different variant, a marketplace seller, a membership price, or a bundle that is not the same box. Nothing runs until you ask, there is no account, and it earns nothing whichever link you open.
No coupon codes, no cashback, no rewards. If a working discount code for a software deal is what you need, this is not the tool.
Muchita verifies today's price. It keeps no price history, so the pre-sale reference in step two is still yours to record.
It compares new, in-stock offers for the exact product. Refurbished listings, resale marketplaces and licence-key resellers sit outside what it checks.
A check opens real store pages and takes time, sometimes a minute or two. A second opinion before you pay, not an instant popup during a doorbuster.
Muchita is a Chrome extension. No mobile app, no Safari or Firefox build, so a purchase made on a phone is one it cannot help with.
Questions and answers
Fair questions, plain answers.
When is Cyber Monday 2026?
Monday, November 30, 2026. It is the Monday after US Thanksgiving, which falls on Thursday, November 26 in 2026, so Black Friday is Friday, November 27. Most retailers run one campaign across the whole stretch, and many start it in early November.
Is Cyber Monday cheaper than Black Friday?
Usually not in any way you can rely on. For most retailers it is one campaign and one price, with different marketing on the Monday. Shoppers report category patterns each year, online-only goods and software leaning to Monday, large in-store items to Friday, but those reports are anecdotal and they move. Judge your product against its own recent price.
Where does the name Cyber Monday come from?
It is widely credited to a 2005 press release from Shop.org, the digital retail division of the US National Retail Federation, after online orders were seen spiking on the Monday after Thanksgiving. NRF's current pages describe the two days as ends of one five-day event but do not restate that origin, so treat the story as reported rather than documented.
Can I return something I bought on Cyber Monday?
For an online order in the EU or the UK you generally have 14 days to cancel without giving a reason, counted from delivery, and sale items are included. The exceptions matter here: sealed goods you have unsealed, items made to your specification, and digital content you agreed to start receiving immediately. Many stores extend the window; check the extension is written down.
How do I recognise a fake order or delivery message?
In this week, treat any such message carrying a link as fake. Do not click it. Open the retailer's or carrier's site yourself and check the order there. The FTC and the UK's NCSC give the same advice. In the UK, forward suspicious texts to 7726 and report emails to the NCSC; in the US, report at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
Does Muchita earn money when I buy something?
No. Muchita is free, has no affiliate links, no paid placement and no account, and it never modifies retailer links or your checkout. The link you open is the retailer's own.

Dates are calendar facts computed for 2026; event names belong to their organizers. Legal summaries describe the cited texts as read on the date shown and are not legal advice: the US Negative Option Rule was unsettled when this was written, and the UK subscription provisions commence separately. The origin of the term "Cyber Monday" is widely reported but is not stated on NRF's current pages, so it is hedged above. Statements about Muchita describe the current public release.
